With seven jetties around the lake there are opportunities for walks along lakeshore footpaths and quiet country lanes using the boat one-way, or boat-walk-boat. Pick up a free “low level walks” leaflet on the launch. Why not buy a pack of walk leaflets? These give you the freedom to plan ‘one way’ fell walks using our jetties.

Boat & Walk

You can combine a cruise aboard one of our traditional timber launches with a lakeside walk along lakeshore footpaths and/or quiet country lanes amidst stunning views of lake, fells and woodlands. Those walks on the east side of the lake can be combined with a visit to Brantwood and/or a stop at the excellent Jumping Jenny restaurant. These walks assume that you are boarding the boat at Coniston Boat Landings and stopping off at one of the other jetties. You can of course do this in reverse – or even sail – walk – sail.

East of the lake

Our jetties at Lake Bank, Brantwood, and Waterhead offer many options for those who prefer to walk along the country lanes on the east side of the lake. Approximate times are:

Brantwood to Coniston Inn: 45 mins
Coniston Inn to Coniston: 10 mins

West of the lake

Lake Bank, Sunny Bank and Torver can be used with the lakeshore footpath and road. Approximate times are:

Lake Bank to Sunny Bank: 60 mins
Sunny Bank to Torver: 60 mins
Torver to Coniston: 45 mins

Foot & Mouth legacy

The road walks east of the lakes were developed to provide safe walks along fenced lanes when all our footpaths were closed in 2001 because of the foot and mouth outbreak. These walks proved so popular that we are recommending them to all who do not particularly want to go on the high fells.
