About Coniston Water Islands
Coniston Water contains three islands: Peel Island, Fir Island and Oak Island. Peel Island is the most famous for being the inspiration for Arthur Ransome’s Wild Cat Island of Swallows and Amazons fame. Fir Island is often connected with the shore at times when the water level is low.
Access to the Islands
You can hire boats from Coniston Boating Centre to land on the islands. However we request that you do not stay overnight or light any fires. Please take care not to disturb any nesting birds.
